Project description

Further development of the electronic order system in line with the introduction of the SAP-R/3 system at the Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe shall integrate the requirements made in the Hazardous Materials' Regulations according to the "BestChemie" concept. BestChemie is a material-flow and work-flow oriented concept of action for compliance with the obligation to investigate in accordance with Article 16 of the Hazardous Materials' Regulations. As a logical consequence, it starts at the beginning of the order procedure with the requesting party having the intention to order (source orientation).

The following system is envisaged:

  • generation of an intranet program for notifications of need, callable orders and reservations of stored material by the requesting parties from electronic catalogues with direct SAP connection, including the ordering of chemicals and the exchange of no longer needed chemicals and materials; offer of additional modules for the accounting of chemicals withdrawn by laboratories as well as for the local keeping of accounts,
  • generation of a module for the inventory control and evaluation of chemicals by the controlling parties (industrial safety, environmental protection, medicine), - making available of the internal waste transfer form on electronic means, and
  • use of other databases such as Informix (NRW) and Oracle (FZK).

BestChemie has been designed for universities and research institutions, but can also be applied by other installations. The previous user program is available in a DOS version in the LAN of the Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe. The project is being performed with the financial support of the Ministry of Science of the state of North-Rhine Westfalia.
