ITAS provides young academics the opportunity to earn a doctorate in a multidisciplinary environment. Doctoral students benefit from the proximity of the institute to the diverse technical facilities of KIT and from the close networking with other institutes.

Apart from dissertations, students can also write their diploma, master’s, or bachelor’s theses at ITAS. The institute’s interdisciplinary way of working offers a variety of disciplinary links.

As a research institute at KIT, ITAS is also involved in teaching, offering in particular courses and lectures on technology assessment, philosophy of technology, and science and technology studies (STS). From the winter semester 2025/26, students can study “Technology Assessment and Future Design” as a major and minor. The subjects are embedded in the B.A. Liberal Arts and Sciences (LAS)

Students of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at KIT can also enrol for the elective course “Technology Assessment.”
