Beyond Technology: Change of perspectives in energy transformation

Energy transition is much more than a question of technology. It is a task for society as a whole! In addition to the conversion to renewable energy sources, aspects such as the common good, fair distribution, and ecology also play an important role in the use. So in order to approach the energy transition in a holistic way, we also need a change of perspectives.

Against this background, we would like to invite you to our interdisciplinary series of lectures “Beyond Technology”.

Together we will take a look at possible energy futures. We will start this four-part lecture series with a journey from the old to the new energy world: An overview of 50 differences. We will deepen this new perspective in the second and the third lecture and see which new aspects arise if we keep social transformation (gender and diversity, lecture 2) and the perspective of ecology (lecture 3) in mind: How can we create an energy transition that is not only good for nature but also for our society? We are looking forward to a lively exchange in the subsequent rounds of discussion. At the end of our series, we will also present our ideas for an implementation of a social and ecological change of perspectives in the energy transformation: Our real-world experiment “Your balcony network – Energy creates community”.

The series will kick off on 6 July, followed by three more dates on Tuesdays, each from 15.00 – 16.30 online via Zoom. This change of perspective is organized by the research group Sustainability and Social Transformation at the Institute for Technology Assessment and Systems Analysis at KIT.

You can find the exact dates with the respective speakers and topics at the end.
