Applied research without a lab coat or safety goggles, in the middle of real life, is that possible? You bet! Since 2012, the District Future team of ITAS has been working together with citizens, politics, city administration, and other stakeholders in Karlsruhe’s Oststadt on a sustainable transformation of the district.

The podcast “Labor Zukunft – Forschung ohne Kittel” (Future Lab – Research Without Lab Coats) kicked-off a new collaboration between District Future and Campusradio Karlsruhe, particularly targeting a younger audience and students. As the title suggests, the aim is to make science tangible and audible. Every eight weeks, always on the last Tuesday of the month at 8 pm, it is now all about hands-on urban research and development.

Food for thought for a sustainable city

For about 30 minutes, each podcast episode offers insights into the basics and everyday life of transdisciplinary sustainability research in the District Future. Together with the listeners, scientists embark on a search for actual transformation processes on site and provide food for thought for a sustainable city.

The first episode was broadcast on 28 January 2020 on FM 104.8 and on the Campusradio webstream. The next episode is scheduled for 31 March 2020.
