Project description

The utilization of lightweight boards has been discussed for years in the wood industry, and, today, this is technically possible. Advantages of lightweight boards are expected in the environmental performance of production and processing as well as in logistics when being compared with conventional timber materials.

In this project the "BalanceBoard" will be assessed under ecological aspects, i.e., regarding the greenhouse gas emissions in production and processing. For this analysis the methodology of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) will be used.

For a comparison with conventional wood-based panels and other types of lightweight boards, results of previous projects will be used for benchmarking purposes.
